PROJECT AREA

The Murphy Creek study area is located in Arapahoe County including portions of unincorporated Arapahoe County and the City Aurora. The study area is roughly bounded by 6th Avenue on the north, E-470 on the west, Smoky Hill Road on the south and the Coal Creek drainage on the East. The project area includes multiple subdivisions, the Denver-Arapahoe Disposal Site, and part of Buckley Air Force Base. Click here to view the Project Map.

PROJECT GOALS

  • Identify existing flooding and drainage problems within the study area and within Murphy Creek and its tributaries.
  • Obtain input from the public, stakeholders, and the project sponsors to develop feasible drainage solutions.
  • Pinpoint the needed stormwater conveyance, detention, stream stability, and stormwater quality improvement measures.
  • Delineate the 100-year flood hazard area for Murphy Creek and its tributaries.
  • Prepare an Alternatives Evaluation report, Preliminary Design report, and a Flood Hazard Area Delineation report.
