Under the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District’s Master Planning Program, stormwater planning studies are periodically conducted to assess detention, water quality, and drainageway needs in watersheds across the Denver metro area. This project is an update to the 1991 Cottonwood Creek Watershed Outfall Systems Planning Study, and will focus on the portion of the watershed within Arapahoe County, Colorado. The project stretches from Cherry Creek State Park to County Line Road, and covers portions of Greenwood Village, Centennial, and unincorporated Arapahoe County. It includes mainstem Cottonwood Creek as well as the Havana Street Tributary, Peoria Street Tributary, and Inverness Tributary C.

Project goals include an update of the watershed hydrology with consideration for existing and future land uses within the study area and in the upstream portions of the watershed; development and evaluation of alternate drainage improvements with regards to channel stabilization, detention, and reduction of runoff; selection of a preferred alternative; and preliminary design of the preferred alternative including estimated costs. The completed study will serve as a guide for implementing drainage improvements within the watershed.

Project deliverables will include a Baseline Hydrology Report, an Alternatives Evaluation (Phase A) Report, and a Conceptual Preliminary Design (Phase B) Report. Watch this page for Executive Summaries of the Phase A and Phase B reports, which will be posted when available.

The project is funded by the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (UDFCD) and the Southeast Metro Stormwater Authority (SEMSWA). Muller Engineering Company, Inc. was selected to complete the study.
