Welcome to the
Irondale Gulch Watershed
Outfall Systems Planning Study Website

Project Description

The purpose of this study is to provide an updated hydrologic analysis, an alternatives assessment, and a conceptual design for the Irondale Gulch Watershed.

An outfall systems plan will be developed for the area downstream of State Highway 2 to address flooding issues in that area. No outfall to the South Platte River currently exists for the watershed, thus design of an outfall is a large component of this plan. Hydrology will be updated for the entire watershed and models will be converted to the latest versions of CUHP and EPA SWMM.

Project Area

The study area is roughly bound on the west by the South Platte River, on the north by 88th Ave., on the east by State Highway 2, and on the south by 80th Ave.  Click here for a Map of the Irondale Gulch Study limits.

The project area, downstream of State Highway 2 is approximately 0.5 square miles. The upstream watershed area (from the upper limit to State Highway 2) is approximately 17 sqare miles.

Project Goals

  • Update entire watershed hydrology with the most recent existing and future land use and convert models to the latest version of CUHP and EPA SWMM.
  • Restore the lost volume in the Upper Derby Lake in alternative locations determined to be feasible for detention.
  • Identify existing flooding and drainage problems downstream of State Highway 2.
  • Obtain input from the public, stakeholders, and the project sponsors to develop feasible drainage solutions.
  • Pinpoint stormwater conveyance, detention, stream stability, and stormwater quality improvements necessary in the study area.
  • Prepare a Baseline Hydrology Report (comparing the new flows to the recently published 2003 flows), develop alternate plans and compile in an Alternatives Evaluation Report, and provide a Conceptual Design Report based on the Selected Plan chosen by the project sponsors from the Atlternatives Evaluation.
