Project Summary:

This 7-month long study of 12.2 miles of Cherry Creek from the confluence of the South Platte River to Cherry Creek Reservoir began January 2010. Urban Drainage & Flood Control District (UDFCD), along with project sponsors Southeast Metro Stormwater Authority (SEMSWA) and the City & County of Denver, contracted with Matrix Design Group to utilize new information to update the previous studies.

The initial stabilization plan was developed in August 1985 by Goodson & Associates, Inc. for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District. The Cherry Creek Stability Analysis was completed to study sediment transport and determine a stable channel slope. In February 1991, Muller Engineering Co. completed a Cherry Creek Stabilization Plan of the upper 7.7 miles of Cherry Creek for the Urban Drainage & Flood Control District from University Boulevard to Cherry Creek Dam. This study identified 27 drop structures to promote channel stability. Of the 27 identified drop structures, 18 have been constructed and are deemed adequate, 2 need rehabilitation, and there are 7 proposed structures remaining. This study will evaluate the need, location and configuration of the 7 structures, as well as develop plans for lateral bank stabilization.

Matrix Design Group will complete an Alternatives Analysis, Draft Planning Report and a Final Planning Report for Cherry Creek.
